Troops arrest 55-year-old cattle rustler in Benue

Troops of Sector C on exercise ” Cat Race”, have arrested a 55-year-old suspected gunrunner and cattle rustler during an exercise at Ukum Local Government Area of Benue state, The suspect, Samuel Gaza, is a weapon instructor and a member of Livestock Guard, according to Maj. Olabisi Ayeni, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 707 Special Forces Brigade.

The army spokesman disclosed that Gaza, during interrogation, confessed to have been rustling cows for over 4 years before he was recruited by the state government as a livestock guard. Ayeni said one Mr. Avaatyough Aontoseer, who was arrested along side Gaza, similarly confessed to being a weapon fabricator, during interrogation.

“Items recovered are: one Fabrique National rifle, 3 Fabrique National and AK 47 magazines, one locally made pistol, 3 dane guns, 4 mobile phones and one axe, military belt, lanyard and a beret, charms, some quantity of indian hemp,” Ayeni said. He urged residents of the state to go about their lawful businesses and provide timely information that will assist the Army in the successful conduct of the exercise.
