Troops capture 167 terrorists in Chad Island

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have captured 167 fleeing Boko Haram terrorists in an Island around Lake Chad basin.
Troops also neutralized scores of the terrorists around the area in a two-week coordinated operation, which involved both air bombardment and ground troops assaults in the terrorists enclave, according to Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, spokesperson of Operation Lafiya Dole.
He said in a statement that troops freed 173 children and 67 women from the shackles of the terrorists, and would hand them over to authorities of the Internally Displaced Peoples (IDP) camps in North east.
Nwachukwu said the troops have also conducted long range fighting and ambushes on the terrorists hideouts in Saada and Juwei, located in the fringes of Northern Borno state, in a sustained operations.
“During the operations troops intercepted and arrested 53 fleeing insurgents who have been profiled and are currently helping with investigations,” he said. “15 insurgents have also willingly surrendered to the troops within the period.”
“Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences go to families and relations of troops as well as civilians who paid the supreme price in the encounters and callous suicide bomb and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks by the terrorists.”
