Troops inflict heavy casualty on terrorists in Yobe

Five members of Boko Haram terrorists have met their water-loo after they, along with others attempted to attack a military base at Buni yadi, in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Army spokesperson, Col. Sagir Musa said the incident  happened at about 6:05 pm on Saturday.  

“Though, the terrorists appeared prepared for the attack as they approached the military location with four gun trucks, one Mine Resistant Ambush Protection, one MOWAC and assorted arms and ammunition, they however, suffered heavy losses as five of them were effectively neutralised,” he said.

“Unfortunately, an officer and three soldiers lost their lives during the encounter, while five soldiers were wounded. They are stable and receiving treatment in the Brigade Field Ambulance.”

Items recovered after the  encounter, according to Sagir, include:  9 x AK 47 rifles, 1x Anti Aircraft gun, 121 rounds of 12.7 mm Anti Aircraft ammunitions, 2x 36 hand grenades, 295 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, 4x Improvised Explosive(IED) Device, 1x IED cylinder, 1x RPG bomb, 1x RPG bomb charger, 1x gun truck and 1x Bajaj Motorcycle. 

He said the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai has commended the successes being recorded by troops in recent times in the North East.

Lt Gen. Buratai enjoined all personnel to remain resolute, alert and decisive as well as professional in the discharge of onerous national assignment.

He commended the public for their cooperation by sharing credible information with security agencies in the area.

Also confirming the incident, a Buni yadi resident who pleaded anonymity, said over 20 bodies of the terrorists were recovered in the bush on Sunday, saying the fighter jets too did well in pursuing the fleeing terrorists.
