Troops on Operation Thunder Strike and Operation Whirl Punch in conjunction with air component of Operation Gama Aiki have killed 17 bandits during operations at their hideouts at Mashigi Galbi, Damba Community and Kabarasha villlages in Gwagwada District of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. John Enenche said in a statement on Monday that the joint clearance operation was conducted on 7 May 2020.

He said several bandits also escaped with degree of injury.

“However, in the course of pursuing the bandits, three empty houses and a Church building were partially damaged at Kabarasha Village. There was no civilian casualty,” he said.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria regrets this unfortunate incident and  a panel has been set up to investigate the occurrence in liaison with the Kaduna State Government. The buildings have been identified with a view to providing adequate compensation to the owners.”

Enenche said that calm has been restored to the area, as few people, who initially fled the area due to fear of bandits’ reprisal attack, had all returned back to the community.

“The High Command of the Armed Forces of Nigeria hereby reassure the general public that it will continue to work assiduously to restore peace and security to the North West.

” It equally thanks the general public for their support and cooperation, while encouraging them to continue to provide credible information that will facilitate the operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
