Troops kill 35 terrorists within 11 days along fringes of Sambisa forest

Nigerian military has continued to record great successes against Boko haram and ISWAP fighter as troops sustain their onslaughts against the adversaries.

A statement by Coordinator Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. John Enenche, on Sunday revealed that troops have killed 35 Boko haram/ ISWAP fighters within Sector 1 Area of Realisability (AOR) during long rang patrols and operations conducted from 11 May to 22 May 202

According to him, troops of Special Response Area Pulka with the Civilian Joint Task Force and hunters killed eight terrorists on 13 May 2020 in an ambush along Pulka-Boko- Kirawa road, where they killed eight terrorists, and captured 10 motorcycles and assorted food items.

He said two days earlier, troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE subsidiary Operation KANTANA JIMLAN and troops of Army Super Camp 6 and 7 conducted a long range fighting patrol cleared Adzunge and adjoining villages.

“On 15 May 2020 troops of 192 Battalion  killed five Boko haram/ISWAP fighters during ambush, and recovered  three AK 47 rifles and 17 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one pair of Boko haram/ISWAP uniform, two cartridges and clothing materials,” Enenche said.

He said the terrorists were relocating from Sambisa forest to Mandara mountains due to heavy air and artillery bombardments.

According to him, also on May 15, troops of 22 Brigade deployed at Dikwa in conjunction with troops from Quick Response Area killed two terrorists who attempted to attack the troops location from Boboshe, while fled with gunshot wounds.

He said the troops recovered one AK 47 rifle and one magazine with 15 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the terrorists.

“Between 19 and 20 May 2020, following Gajigana attack, troops of 7 Division Garrison, 195 and 212 Battalions with Vigilantes exploited and discovered five terrorists killed in action. Five AK 47 rifles, 2 BHT gun trucks, 1 anti-aircraft gun, 6 assorted magazines, 250 rounds of 12.7 mm,  61 rounds of 7.62 mm and 2 hand grenades were recovered,” Enenche said.

In an operation conducted on 20 May 2020 along Pulka-Dirgi-Banki general area, troops of Special Response Area Pulka  with Civilian Joint Task Force and hunters, ambushed the terrorists killing two of them and recovered one AK 47 loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Enenche said that troops of 81 Division Task Force under 22 Brigade and 153 Task Force Battalion with Civilian Joint Task Force killed eight terrorists during a clearance operation conducted on 21 May 2020 along Mugdala village.

He said one AK 47 rifle, One Dane gun, three Boko haram flags, two bicycles, two Techno cell phones, two memory cards and other phone accessories were recovered.

“Equally, troops of 202 Battalion and Special Armoured Brigade Garrison Bama, based on credible intelligence sprung an ambush on 22 May 2020 at Boko haram/ISWAP crossing point along Bama Aulari road.

“Three Boko haram/ISWAP terrorists were neutralised and others escaped with gunshot wounds,” he said.

Enenche said the Chief of the Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has  commended the “gallant troops for their professionalism”, even  as the High Command of the Nigerian Military has also congratulated and also encourages troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE to “maintain the momentum of their operations, towards eradicating the terrorists from the North-east.”
