Troops neutralise 39 terrorists along Lake Chad region

Troops of Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Sector 2 in the Republic of Chad and Sector 3 in Nigeria have neutralised 39 Boko haram terrorists during a clearance operation in Cross Kauwa village in the Lake Chad region.

Twenty soldiers were also wounded during the encounter that took place on Tuesday April 16, 2019, and had been evacuated for medical treatment.

According to the spokesperson of Sector 3 Operation Lafiya Dole, Ezindu Idimah, several items, including two gun trucks, two Anti-aircraft gun and nine AK47 riffles, were recovered from the terrorists after the encounter.

Other items recovered, according to him, were one HK21 rifle and  four Rocket Propelled Guns.

Idimah said the Chadian Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Tahir Erda had paid a “morale boosting visit to combined troops undergoing Operation YANCIN TAFKI in the frontline.” 

He said: “General Erda called for more regional collaboration in ending the surge of insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin. 

“He urged the troops to create a good relationship towards achieving the aim of the ongoing operation.  He also visited Sector 3 Hospital where he checked on some sick soldiers and toured the scene of the fire fight.”
