Troops repel terrorists attack in Borno

Troops of 22 Brigade deployed in Operation Lafiya Dole repelled Boko Haram terrorists attack on Dikwa, Borno state.
The terrorists attempted to infiltrate Dikwa last Friday through the Eastern flank of the town but were intercepted by the troops on duty, according to Brig. Gen. Texas Chukwu, the army spokesperson.
Chukwu said in a statement that some of the terrorists escape with gunshot wounds “following a superior fire power of the troops during the encounter.” “Effort is being intensified by the troops to get other fleeing members of terrorists group,” he said.
“Also, no casualty was recorded by the troops during the encounter.” He said the Commander 22 Brigade Brig.
Gen. John Ochai while confirming the incident, assured the residents of their safety.
“He advised every law abiding citizens to go about their businesses as the Nigerian Army is on top of the situation,” Chukwu said.
In another statement, the army spokesperson said troops of the Nigerian Army while conducting routine check intercepted a Nissan bus with 20 occupants suspected to be bandits along Nasarawa – Abuja road.
He said the suspects claimed, during interrogation, thst they were hunters from Adamawa on transit to Abuja for National Hunters Association scheduled to hold on Saturday 28 July 2018.
He said items recovered include: 17 locally made guns, 135 Cartridges, two locally made pistols, one locally made knife, three cutlasses, one bow and 38 arrows, and assorted charms.
Chukwu said that preliminary investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate authority on completion
