Troops rescue 8 months baby, kill 21 bandits in Katsina village

Troops of Operation SAHEL SANITY have killed 21 bandits and rescued  three person,  including a eight months baby,  during an “aggresive” operation in Doka village in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina state.

The operation was executed on September 24, 2020, father the troops received a credible information on bandits attack in the village,  Brig. Gen.  Benard Onyeuko, Acting Director Defence Media Operations,  has said.

Onyeuko said the bandits had held the three kidnapped victims for more than 23 days before they we’re rescued by the troops.

He said that after the troops had received the information about the presence of bandits in tge village,  they (troops) “responded swiftly and immediately mobilised to the general area where they successfully cleared the village of the marauders. “

“During the encounter, troops successfully neutralized 21 bandits while others escaped with gunshot wounds into the forest as evident by the trails of blood along the criminals’ escape route, ” he said. 

“In the aftermath of the decisive encounter, the gallant troops successfully rescued 3 kidnapped victims including an 8 months old baby who have been in the custody of the criminals for more than 23 days.

“Regrettably, resulting from the encounter with the bandits, one gallant officer and  2 soldiers paid the supreme sacrifice while 2 other soldiers were wounded in action and are currently receiving medical treatment in a military medical facility and responding positively.”

He said the troops recovered some arms and ammunition from the bandits after the encounter,  and had continued to “pursue the bandits into the forest and dominating the general areas with aggressive fighting patrols to deny them any respite.”

“Consequently,  troops of Operation SAHEL SANITY are commended for their resilience and commitment to duty. They are further urged not to rest on their oars until the Northwest zone is completely rid of all criminal element, ” he said.
