For troops to perform optimally and discharge their constitutional roles effectively there is the need to ensure that their welfare is catered for at all time, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has said.
He said this while inaugurating the ST Fast Food outlet at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, at the weekend.
The army boss said experience had shown that alleviating troops inconvenience in the work place produce optimal performance.

He said: “This is not the first time I have established things like this in units and formations I had served. I established similar outlets in 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, and Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji, where I was Brigade Commander and Commandant, respectively.
“Based on my experience, it is important to alleviate the inconvenience of personnel in order for them to perform optimally.

“The outlet would afford officers and soldiers serving in the Army Headquarters the opportunity of having their lunch without going out of the premises. It will also be of importance to personnel that will be closing late from office.
“This outlet is a pilot scheme of venture that will be extended to other formations and units of the Nigerian Army. I hope that this will go a long way in enhancing the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel, spurring all to strive to discharge their duties and responsibilities more professionally.”

Earlier in his remarks, Chief of Logistics, Maj. Gen. PAT Akem said the establishment of the outlet was in furtherance of the COAS vision “to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles.”
It could be recalled that recently the new wing of the Nigerian Army Headquarters complex was commissioned. The renovation and furnishing of the entire Army Headquarters is still ongoing, and is said to be at advanced stage.
