A cement-laden truck, Sunday reportedly crushed nine persons to death at Ekpon junction along the Agbor-Ewohimi road, Igueben local government area of Edo state.
Blueprint gathered that the deceased were travelling from Benin City and heading to Ewatto community, Esan South East local government to attend a wedding ceremony when the tragedy struck.
A witness who declined to give his details said the the victims were travelling in a Siena bus when they suddenly had a head-on collision with the truck believed to be conveying cement from the South-Eastern part of Nigeria.
Edo state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Henry Benamaisia, confirmed the accident.
Benamaisia who attributed the accident to over speeding and lost of control, however stated that only five died on the spot.
According to him, “10 persons were involved in the accident including the truck driver and motor boy.
“Five died on the spot, three were unconscious and rushed to the hospital,”
“The truck driver and his motor boy were unhurt. I have asked my men to go to the hospital to ascertain the status of those rushed to the hospital and I will give you update,” he stated.
