TUC sues for peace as Bayelsa gears up for guber poll

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) in Bayelsa has called on aspirants in various political parties to conduct themselves and respect the electoral law as they get set for it gubernatorial poll fixed for Nov 16.

The state chairman of the congress, Mr Tari Dounana, told journalists Tuesday in Yenagoa that abiding by the rules of the game would ensure the much needed free and fair poll in the state.

Dounana particularly called on the candidates of the PDP to respect the constitution of the country as they prepare for their primaries and support efforts in strengthening the nation’s democracy.

“Let us use this election to set a good record for other states to learn. You know Bayelsa has been tagged as ‘violence state’ when it comes to elections.

“The politicians in all political parties should have that in mind and conduct themselves in a manner that will ensure peaceful and credible primaries.

“Conduct themselves in a manner that the outcome of the primaries and the proper election would be acceptable to all.

“I believe, that will go a long in the efforts to strengthen our democracy institution, which we are building.

“The youth should not allow themselves to be used for thuggery during and after the elections,” Labour Boss advised.
