Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has expressed shocked over the demise of one of the prominent sons of the state, Dr. Mahmud Tukur.
Dr Tukur was a former minister of commerce and industry and vice chancellor of Bayero University Kano.
He died at the age of 82.
Fintiri in his condolence message made available to Blueprint, signed by his Press Secretary Humwashi wonosikou described late Tukur as a rare gem.
Fintiri said the state have lost one of its finest technocrat and academic who have contributed a lot to the development of his father land.
“On behalf of myself, family and the good people of Adamawa state, I want to express our heart felt condolences to elder stateman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the entire family of the deceased, the people of Adamawa state and Nigeria on this sad lost.
“We have lost a rare gem, one of our fine technocrat and academic who had served this nation meritoriously. Our prayers is that Allah forgives his sons and grant him aljannatu fildausi.
“His death came as a rude shock especially at a time his wisdom and wealth of experience are needed in addressing the challenges of development in Adamawa and Nigeria,” he said.
Fintiri further urged the family to uphold the ideals he stood for when he was alive and preserve his legacies which will continue to serve as an inspiration for generations to come.
The deceased has been buried in Yola amidst tears from family, friends and well wishers.
