Tungan Maje community gets N15m Police Divisional Headquarters

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba has approved the establishment of a Police Divisional Headquarter at Tungan Maje community, a suburb of Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT Abuja.

The development is in reaction to recent onslaught on the community by bandits, robbers and kidnappers terrorising the people.

Speaking at the ground breaking and foundation laying ceremony Tuesday, the vice chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Gwagwalada branch, Barrister David Ebosetale Aigbefoh who facilitated the project, said insecurity is the greatest challenge being faced in the area.

He said, “This place has become a terrorists’ zone. There are a lot of residents who are no longer comfortable living within the area because of the kidnapping, banditry and robbery in their various homes and it has necessitated what we are seeing here today.

“I must thank the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the FCT commissioner of police and everyone involved for their proactiveness in approving the Police Divisional Headquarters in our locality.

“We are calling on Tungan Maje indigenes to also make their own contributions,” he said, explaining that the project will cost approximately N15 million.

One of the community leaders in the area, Professor Ichado Sunday Menyaga said armed bandits, kidnappers and robbers have been terrorising the area for quite sometime now but with the establishment of the Police Divisional Headquarter here in Tungan Maje will head to curtail the insecurity problem in the area.

“We applied that a police station should be given to us and fortunately, today we are doing a ground breaking and foundation laying ceremony for the police station. The IGP was magnanimous enough to approve the recommendation of the commissioner and we are happy about that.

“The protection of lives and properties is our concern here; we do not want the issue of rampage, banditry and kidnapping in this area again. So that is our concern,” he said.

NBA chairman, Gwagwalada branch, Isah Abubakar Aliyu, also commended the IGP and FCT Commissioner of Police for their intervention.
