Twin blasts kill 31 in Jos, explosives uncovered in Kano

Not fewer than 30 persons were killed at a twin explosion at Jos terminus market, yesterday even bags containing explosives were uncovered at the famous grains market, popularly known as Dawanu market in Kano state.
Blueprint learnt that the Jos blasts occurred about 6:15 pm, while second happened at 6:18 pm.
Our correspondent, who was at the scene of the blast, reported that he counted eleven dead bodies at the location of the first explosion at the terminus closed to Mr. Biggs, while at the location of the second explosion behind the Jos main market, 20 corpses were also counted.

Many other people were also injured by the explosions, which were believed to have been planted.
Blueprint correspondent reported that most of the casualties were taken by people who were at the venue using will barrow to nearby clinics within the city center of Jos.
Men of the Police later evacuated some of the casualties to the Plateau Specialist Hospital, in a white hilux van bearing the logo of ‘operation rainbow.

Meanwhile, Blueprint also learnt on good authority that the explosives were neatly concealed in polythene bags and carelessly abandoned at strategic locations with the intention of taking traders and their customers off guard.
As soon as people in the market noticed the presence of the bomb laden polythene bags, they quickly drew the attention of the police to avert a possible calamity.
However, as soon as the police ordinance unit arrived, it was eventually discovered that the polythene bags were fully loaded with explosives.
Upon the discovery, people were advised to vacate the densely populated area and quickly diffused it.
The Kano state police commissioner, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba, had confirmed the incident to news men in Kano, and pledged to take further steps to ensure that the state is properly secure.
