Two hospitalised as Hausa youth clash with locals in Edo

A clash between Hausa labourers and youths of Idunwin-Ehigie at Egba junction along the Benin-Auchi express road in Edo state has left two persons hospitalized.

A mosque and the Nasrul Lahi L Fatih Society (NAFSAT) Education Centre in the community were also affected.

Blueprint learnt that trouble started Tuesday when one of the injured person identified as Osa’s and some youths ask the labourers to leave where they had gathered.

The development was said to have turned bloody when the labourers who were armed with working tools like diggers, shovels and cutlasses resisted them.

This led heated argument and Osa’s, a vulcanizer was stabbed.

Pained by the injury, other youths unleashed attack on the labourers and injured one Hameed -thereby heightening tension in the area.

NAFSAT Chairman in Benin, Dr. Isiaka Mustapha led other members to ascertain the level of destruction  in the area.

Mustapha said the perpetrators would be apprehended.

Also, the community head, Pa. John Aghimien lamented “the daily increase of the Hausa labourers”.

 “they  (labourers) are armed and have taken over the junction in search of jobs,” he said.

Spokesman for Edo State Police command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor confirmed the incident, adding that three persons have been arrested.

He added that peace has been restored to the community.
