Two suspected thieves who specialised in snatching money from their victims after coming out from the bank were yesterday burnt by a mob in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.
The two young men, who were on motorbike, allegedly snatched N400,000 from one Ayuba Adagazu on his way to deposit the money in First Bank.
Luck ran out of them as their victim raised alarm and attracted public sympathy who chased them and caught them close to IBTC Bank along Jos road and burnt them.
One of the suspects died on the spot while his colleague was saved by security men who rushed to the scene and dispersed the angry mob before taking him to the hospital in the federal road safety van (FRSC).
The incident, which attracted a lot of crowd, led to heavy traffic along Jos road and took the security operatives several hours before they could clear the road.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Umar Isma’ila Numan, confirmed the incident but said he was yet to know the actual cause.
He said: “The incident happened actually but I am not yet been briefed on the incident but our men are on ground.
“I am aware of the incident but meanwhile we are cautioning people to stop taking the law into their hands because the police is always available to receive any complain they should have been arrested and taking to the police station.”
