African football governing body, Confederation of African Football (CAF) have drawn Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles against perennial rival, Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire – in the zonal qualifiers for the U-17 and U-20 AFCON’s.
The U-17 AFCON zonal qualifiers will be hosted by Benin between December 5 and 20, while the U-20 qualifiers are slated for Togo from November18 to December 2.
In the AFCON U-20, the top two teams (finalists) in other qualification zones will qualify for the main tournament in Mauritania.
The Flying Eagles are expected to start preparations for the WAFU B zonal qualification tournament this week in Abuja after the Federal Government lifted restrictions on contact sports late last weekend but the ongoing #EndSARS protest did not let the idea materialize as players were unable to travel.
The 2021 U-20 AFCON in Mauritania will hold from February to March.
The Flying Eagles have won the U-20 AFCON title a record seven times and last won it in 2015.
At the 2019 edition in Niger Republic, the Nigerian side finished fourth.
The Golden Eaglets on their own are five times world champions with Coach Fatai Amoo in charge while Ladan Bosso is calling the shots in the Flying Eagles.
