U-21 African Volleyball: 8 AYG champions to lead Team Nigeria

Team Nigeria to the 2018 U-21 Men African Volleyball Championship, scheduled for Abuja, Nigeria, will feature eight members of the Nigeria male volleyball gold medallists at the 2018 African Youth Games that recently ended in Algeria.
The U-21 national team head coach, Mr Elishama Elam dropped the hint during an interview with sports reporters at the Murtala Square, Kaduna camp, where the U-21 team is currently preparing for the tournament, billed for September 10 to 20, 2018.
“I have some crop of U-17 that just came back from Algeria, so we have some information on North African countries.
Eight of the U-17 team who won the Africa Youth Games gold in Algeria are in the team,” he said.
Elam explained that Nigeria’s national U-20 camp started since August 26, adding that they are doing everything possible to make the country proud.
He said the condition of the camp is satisfactory, while hinting that the number of players would be pruned by Thursday (yesterday).
“With the level of preparation, we will do well.
I don’t believe in hosting to win, but we will win, even if the competition is taken elsewhere, we will win.
The feeding is okay, the President of NVBF, Engineer Musa Nimrod and board members are ensuring we are adequately catered for.
There are 30 players in camp but they would be reduced to 18,” he added.
He explained that they would be in Kaduna till September 5, when they will move to venue of the competition, Abuja to acclimatize.
Captain of the team, Moses Gana, 19-years, said that they have been training and preparing hard to make Nigeria proud.
Also speaking, Henry Tochukwu, one of those that won gold for Nigeria in Algeria, said that the players in camp have prepared hard and are ready to make Nigeria proud.
Twelve countries are participating in the African tournament namely; hosts Nigeria, Congo DR, Chad, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Guinea, Tunisia, Egypt, Niger, Botswana, Cameroon and Nigeria national volleyball team in action Morocco.
