UBEC condemns learning under trees

The Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Alhaji (Dr.) Dikko Suleiman has said that there can’t be a positive result from a pupil that learns under trees.

Dr. Suleiman noted this while receiving a delegation from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Project for the construction of additional classrooms, phase III in Oyo State in his office.
He said, the federal government will ensure that all Nigerian pupils will learn under a conducive environment for easy assimilation.

The Executive Secretary expressed appreciation to the government and people of Japan for the significant contribution in the development of basic education in Nigeria.

He said, the federal government through the commission is satisfied with the level of collaboration between UBEC and JICA in basic education delivery in Nigeria with specific reference to intervention like the construction of 78 classrooms in Niger State, 147 in Plateau, 265 in Kaduna and 317 in Kano apart from the furniture and construction of toilets.

On the ongoing intervention in Oyo State, the Executive secretary said the commission will participate actively and cooperate with JICA to the eventual utilization and sustainability of the projects when completed.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation Mr. Tetsuo Seki said apart from construction of classrooms, JICA has trained Nigerian teachers and administrators locally and in Japan under the Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education (SMASE) project where over 6000 national, State and Co-teachers were trained
