The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has asked contractors who had poorly handled government schools projects in Kwara state to go back and fix such projects to the Bill of Quantity (BoQ) guideline before their visit to such sites.
The team leader of the Commission’s Constituency Project Tracking Group (CPTG) deployed to Kwara state, Aminu Bala, handed dawn the warming, while inspecting some of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) constituency school projects executed in the state, which was part of their constituency projects tracking in the state.
The schools’ projects inspected, all located within Kwara central senatorial district included Government Day Junior Secondary School, Adewale; Mount Camel Primary School, Oloje; Ansarul Islam Secondary School, Ogidi; Apata BabaOyo L.E.A Primary School; Anifowoshe Primary and Junior Secondary School, Ipata-Oloje; and Government Girls Day Secondary School, Pataka.
“Contractors who know they have not done a proper job should go back and do the correct thing in line with the Bill of Quantity (BoQ) guideline of the projects. If we get to a school and we find out that the project is not well executed we will ask the contractor to go back to the site. Before we get back to the projects’ site, they should go back and quickly do the right thing in line with the guideline of the projects,” he said.
He also advised the communities which the projects are located to take ownership of the projects, adding that constituency projects were executed with federal government money and not the facilitator.
“These projects are for the communities and are executed with government money and not the money of the person who facilitated the projects. Facilitators are not the owners of the projects but only attracted to the communities because they know the needs of their people and assist them to get the projects for them.”
While urging the citizens to take adequate care of the projects, Mr. Bala called on residents to make sure that the projects are well maintained and always in good condition.
Meanwhile, 10 communities in the Asa Local Government Area of the State were also visited to track streetlights installed by the contractors that executed the project.
Places visited were Sapati-Ile, Abayawo, Ogbondoroko, Ago-Oja and Reke, Laduba, Afon, Aboto-Alfa, Budo-Egba and Ote.
