Uboh, Friesland ecstatic as Nigeria hosts Int’l powerlifting tourney

President of Nigeria Para-Powerlifting Federation, Queen Uboh has described as unprecedented the hosting right which the country secured ahead of 2019 International Para-Powerlifting championship (IPC) scheduled to be staged in Lagos.
Uboh who is one of the key members of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) ahead of the competition slated between January 24 and 30, next year spoke when the committee was officially inaugurated in Abuja.
Uboh said, “Within first six months of my assumption in office as the President of the President of Nigeria Para-powerlifting federation, our dear Nation won the hosting rights to host this international competition.
“This is a great achievement for the country.
It may interest you to know that since inception of the federation, this is the first time the federation will be hosting an international event of this magnitude in the history of the federation where about 295 athletes from all over the world are expected to compete for 20 Gold, 20 Silver and 20 Bronze medals.
“Within these six months.
The federation has recorded so many successes in major international championships as well as National and continental competitions during which several new world record was beat by our para-powerlifters.
Also speaking, another member of the MOC and Marketing Director of Friesland Campina Wamco Nigeria, Chris Wuff-Caesar explained that the company’s choice of supporting and sponsoring Nigeria’s para-powerlifting sport was due to numerous exploits the federation has recorded over the years.
Inaugurating the committee which also comprise Permanent Secretary, ministry of youth and sports Mr Olusade Adesola as Chairman, Monday Egvabare, Ruel Ishaku, Mrs.
Modupeola Lawale, Are Feyisetan among others as members, Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung who appealed for accelerated support to enable the competition become successful remarked that the competition would be a veritable platform for discovery of more burden talents and further put Nigeria on the world map as Para-Lifting Nation Dalung also assured, “I want to assure the world that Nigeria is going to organize the event that will be hitchfree that will give not only Nigerians but the whole world the much-needed fun, happiness and excitement.” Over 295 Nations around the world are pencilled to compete at the worldwide event.
