UEFA Champions League Final Preview: Los Blancos, L’pool in epic final

Real Madrid and Liverpool will battle for a final chance at silverware when they face off at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev. The epic final has been likened to the Biblical cobat between David and Goliath.

Real Madrid come into the Champions League final after a disappointing season in La Liga where they finished third, a staggering seventeen points behind eventual champions and arch foes, Barcelona.

Their final match of the season against Villarreal summed up their season perfectly as they threw away a two goal lead to draw 2-2.

Defence has been an area of concern for Los Blancos, but their Champions League form has been much better, overcoming PSG, Juventus and Bayern Munich on the road to the final.

Liverpool have had a rollercoaster season as well, finishing fourth in the premier League. They have won just one of their last four games and shipped in six goals in their semi-final tie against Roma.

Like Madrid, defence has been an area of concern, meaning goals are guaranteed from both teams. Both sides have players they can rely on in the big games, with Cristiano Ronaldo being the top scorer in this season’s competition with 15 goals, while Mohammed Salah just had his best career to date, netting 32 goals to break the Premier League record for most goals in a season.

Madrid are the favourites for the title as they have won the last two editions and are looking to become the first team to win three in a row.

The Reds shouldn’t be underestimated though as Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, the other members of Liverpool’s “fab three”, are match winners on their own.

All told, soccer buffs all over the world should be in for a champagne treat tonight.
