The Zamfara state Ulama Consultative Council has appealed to Governor Bello Mohammed (Matawallen Maradun) to consider the people over the state government’s plan to expand a certain road in Gusau town that had marked among others for dualisation.
A statement issued by the special adviser on public enlightenment, media and communication to the governor, Zailani Bappa, indicated that the Ulama made the call when they paid a special visit to the Governor at House Friday led by its chairman, Sheikh Abubakar Aliyu Fari.
The state government had embarked plans to start massive reconstruction of Gusau, the state capital, where many roads would be dualised.
The statement read in part, “Certain politicians, whose properties are affected in the plan, have manipulated the situation to appear like a political witch-hunt, with prominent opposition politicians alleging vendetta and even petitioning the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.”
It added that the Ulama, as an impartial arbiter, decided to wade into the matter, urging the governor to consider altering the road plan on the streets in question as the father of all.
The governor, according to the statement, thanked the Council for their concern and advice and urged them to continue to advise his administration, assuring that he would always listen to them.
Speaking to journalists after the visit, the chairman of the Council, Sheikh Abubakar Aliyu Fari, commended the governor for being a listening leader and respecting elders.
He urged indigenes to rally around the governor and his administration for the maintenance of peace and speedy development of the state.
