Umahi assures safety of Corps members as new NYSC batch takes oath in Ebonyi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has assured the National Youth Serve Corps (NYSC) members of adequate security in all parts of the state while discharging their primary assignments.

The governor gave the assurance at the NYSC permanent Orientation camp, Afikpo, while swearing-in the 2019 batch ‘C’ stream one corps members.

Umahi represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth development, Mr Charles Akpuenika, assured that Ebonyi people would make the corps members feel at home being peaceful, accommodating and friendly.

“The state government will continue to articulate and implement programmes aimed at making our youths central to the execution of our developmental agenda.

He said government was highly committed to ensure effectiveness and success of the orientation course being a critical aspect of the service year.

“You should be guided that you are not only ambassadors of the NYSC but also representing your family and the Nigerian youths,” he said.

He commended the Federal  Government (FG) for focusing the scheme towards the vision of its founding fathers by ensuring that corps members contribute immensely to the growth and development of the country.

“The NYSC has grown to be an effective vehicle for national unity and integration with focus on youth mobilisation for the development of the nation.

Coordinator of NYSC in Ebonyi, Mrs Ann Ibe, 

said 1, 922 prospective corps members deployed to the state have reported and been registered.

She said, “975 out of the registered number are males while 947 are female as the prospective corps members have come from various states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with different socio- economic, religious and cultural backgrounds which portrays the beauty and strength of our nation’s unity in diversity.”

Ibe noted that camp life was regimented with course content which includes: para military drills, meditation, physical training, skill acquisition, sports, among others.

A Corps Member from Cross River, Mr James Abi, said he would familarise with the culture and attitudes of his area of primary assignment to effectively discharge his duties.

The oath of service was delivered on the corps members by Ebonyi Chief Judge, Justice Anselm Nwigwe who was represented by Justice Benson Ogbu.
