Umahi calls for unity, religious tolerance

Governor of Ebonyi state and Chairman, South East Governors Forum, Chief David Umahi, has called on Muslim faithful across the country to identifi ed unity and religious tolerance as panacea to achieving peace and development as they celebrate this year’s Eid elKabir.

Umahi in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Emmanuel Uzor, described unity and religious tolerance as the sine qua non for achieving cohesion and peace in any country and called on Muslim faithful to preach peace as they celebrate this year’s Eid elKabir.

According to the statement, the governor also used the occasion to preach for unity among all segments of the society which has been dangerously divided along religious, political and ethnic lines and called on all Muslim faithful to use the opportunity created by the celebration to preach for unity in the country.

He further cautioned against various salient and insipient divisive tendencies that have over the years fueled various agitations in the country and called for equity and justice in every part of the country irrespective of religious, political and ethnic lines.

Umahi, however, reiterated the readiness of the governors of the South-east zone to protect lives and property of every Nigerian irrespective of tribe and assured Muslim faithful to ensure adequate security
