Umahi campaign organization passes vote of no confidence on police

The council of Elders forum of the Divine Mandate Organization, a campaign platform of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state on Friday passed a vote of no confidence on Nigerian Police under the command of Muhammad Adamu Abubakar.

The Elder revealed this while briefing journalist in Abakaliki on the attack melted on members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by suspected hoodlums from All Progressives Congress (APC) at Afikpo South LGA where they went for a political rally.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the Director General of the Divine Mandate organization, Engineer Fidelis Nwankwo said the attack on their rally was an indication that the police which was supposed to ensure their security has failed in its responsibility.

Nwankwo, a former Minister of Health who addressed the press in the company of some stakeholders of the state including former Deputy Governor Chigozie Ogbu, Senator Ngiji Ngele noted that the citizens of the state could resort to self-defense should it become obvious that the security agents were not disposed to giving them the protection they deserve.

“At the procession of the Divine Mandate Organization headed to Edda for its rally, a bunch of APC thugs were mobilised and violently set upon the PDP procession which was lawfully and legitimately going about their business. The law abiding citizens were molested, beaten and harassed by these mindless street men. Wanton destruction was also inflicted on vehicles and property of the PDP faithfuls whose only crime was to express their freedom of association and political affliction”, he stated.

Nwankwo further explained that before the latest assault, the posters and bill boards of the PDP in Ebonyi state were defaced, torn and pulled down by those suspected to be APC associates.
