Umahi re-appoints ex- CPS as aide on fruits market dev’t

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi has appointed his former Chief Press Secretary (CPS) Mr Emmanuel Uzor as his new Special Assistant (SA) on Fruits/ Food market development.

Uzor was recently relived of his duty as the CPS by the governor as his new portfolio was part of a minor reshuffle carried out by the governor.

The appointment was contained in a statement signed by Mr Francis Nwaze, the Governor’s SA on New Media who will also, presently oversee the office of project documentation.

“Mr Emmanuel Igwe, the former SA on project documentation is presently assigned as SA on parks development.

“Mr Emeka Nwankwo is also, presently the SA on Information Communication Technology (ICT),” the statement read.

In a related development, the state government has debunked a report by an online publication that the governor threatened that his convoy will hit any citizen or group in the state who blocks it.

The declaration was contained in a statement also signed by Nwaze, stating that the publication was intended to project the governor badly before the people.

“The governor will never address Ebonyi people in such language more so in a circumstance of misconduct by some criminals within a community.

“The Ebonyi government urges the editorial board of the online publication to uphold the highest standard in filing of reports before circulation in the social media,” it read.

The statement indicated that the governor over the weekend, was heading to Abakaliki from Onicha Local Government Area (LGA) when he met a barrier set by unknown persons.

“Unconfirmed reports claim that the barrier may had been set by some people to check traffic at a wake-keep.

“The government observed the slow response in dismantling the barrier for his onward movement and in the long wait, unknown miscreants approached one of his security vehicles and took a firearm.

“The governor irked by such act of brigandage and disrespect for his office, called for the arrest and prosecution of the culprits with no reference to Ebonyi people,” the statement read.

According to the statement, “the state governor is protected by the Nigerian state according to extant regulations and threats to his security and will be resisted by security agencies deployed to ensure such.”

Uzor and Nwankwo were later sworn in by the governor as Nwaze and Igwe had earlier been sworn-in.
