UN partners private sector on humanitarian crisis in North-east

In its determination to tackle the huge humanitarian crisis in the North-east, the UN in collaboration with Nigerian Private Sector Initiative is galvanizing efforts to address the suffering of  the people affected by insurgency in the region.

The United Nation Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr Edward Kalon who led the delegation of the UN and Nigerian Private sector initiative on a courtesy visit on Governor Kashim Shettima at the Government House Maiduguri  Tuesday  commended the Nigerian private Sector Initiative for the partnership, adding that it was the first its kind in the whole world.

” We in the United Nations has dine alit in the humanitarian crisis in the Northeast but with your partnership we will do more in sustaining the peace development process in the Northeast, ” he added.

Kalon said “there is a lot of money to solve humanitarian crisis in the world, but the money is the hands if the few individuals. We are persuading those who have to donate for the humanitarian crisis affecting the world.”

Reacting, Governor Kashim Shettima of Botno state said the Boko Haram insurgency has left 57,311 orphans and 54, 911 widows since the commencement of crisis in 2009.

He said “to address the educational needs if this orphans, we built 40 Mega Schools across the state,18 of these schools are in Maiduguri with the remaining ones in the local governments. I urge you to help us by intervening in the education sector.”
