UN Peace Day: NPC invites warring groups, assures Buhari of resolution

The Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) has invited all the warring groups across the country for resolution of all the disaffections in order to ensure peace and unity in Nigeria.

The organisation, however, assured President Muhammadu Buhari that if given opportunity it has capacity to successfully resolve all the warring groups.

Speaking Monday in Abuja at the 2020 United Nations International Day of Peace organised by his organisation, the acting Comptroller General of the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) Dr.  Mustapha Mohammed Abubakar, said “if all Nigerians can rebuff evil vices cutting across corruption, discrimination, banditry, kidnapping, beating war drums and other unpleasant innuendos, Nigeria will be a paradise on earth where investment can thrive and the people enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“I appeal to all warring groups in this country to kindly approach the Nigerian Peace Corps to ameliorate in their agitations and then, witness smiling faces as their matter of interest is amicably resolved without violence because destroying government property and wasting innocent lives will not do this nation and the citizenry any good.

“In view of the unwavering determination just expressed, let me assure President and Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari and the citizenry that the Nigerian Peace Corps is poised, focused and undeterred by whatever sacrifices before it, to ensure that the once eluded peace in some parts of this country is restored to its length and breadth because nice people make nice things happen.”

While speaking on this year’s team of the UN Peace Day, Abubakar called on leaders to be tools of unity and not disunity, invest in people and not impoverish the people.

He also called on the officers and men of the NPC to maintain decorum, tactifulness and never allow a drop of peace fall into the pit.

Reading the message of the United Nations secretary general Antonio Guterres, called on all warring parties to lay down their weapons and focus on the battle against global pandemic.

“To mark it’s 75th anniversary, the UN has invited millions of people worldwide rejoin UN75, the largest and further-reaching global conversation on building the peaceful and prosperous future that we want.”
