Uncertainty in APC; postpones Anambra gov primary, receives report Dogara, Bauchi gov rift

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has shifted the primary election for its Anambra state governorship ticket earlier slated for Saturday August 19, to August 26, amidst uncertainties.

The National Publicity Secretary of APC, Malam Bolaji Abdulahi, said the postponement was necessitated by logistic issues.

The party had cleared 12 governorship aspirants to participate in the primary election.

However, Blueprint has learnt that the decision to shift the primary may not be unconnected with the disagreement of the party’s delegates’ list which ought to have been given to each of the aspirants on their return of nomination forms but was not ready.

An official of the party told Blueprint at the party National Secretariat Monday that the shift is also due to the desire of the party to prune the number of aspirants through consensus building process.

Meanwhile, the Senator Chris Ngige-led fact-finding committee of the APC on crisis in the Bauchi State has submitted its report to the party’s leadership.

Speaking to journalists shortly after submitting the report on Tuesday, Senator Ngige said the dispute has since polarized the party.

He also disclosed that the matter has affected the unity of the party members thereby putting the ability of the party to win elections in the State in serious jeopardy.

“Mainly, we found out that Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dogara and members of the National Assembly, Senators and House of Reps members, were at one side of the divide and at the other side of the divide, we had executive governor of the State, Mohammed Abubakar and members of the State Assembly, his commissioners and a large chunk of the party structure, majority on the other side,” Ngige said.

Senator Ngige listed some of the finding of the committee to include, disagreement over the APC primaries conducted in the State in 2014.

Other issues had to do with unpaid workers salaries, alleged lack of transparent use of Paris Club refund and power sharing arrangement.
