Uneasy calm as bandits kidnap 4 babies, nursing mothers, 10 others in Kaduna

Four nursing mothers, their babies and 10 persons have been reported kidnapped in Mando village of Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state.

The incident occurred around 1:30am on Wednesday when bandits stormed the village, shooting sporadically. The bandits also went away with four motorcycles and food items.


Confirming the incident, Chairman, Birnin Gwari Emirate Development Union (BEDU), Barrister Salisu Haruna, said the bandits arrived the village much more earlier without the knowledge of the villagers, studied the environment for their would be victims before striking at the middle of the night.


According to him, the village attacked is 5km away from Birnin Gwari town and about 3km away from the Airforce base in Birnin Gwari. He said that the bandits came without any means of movement but conveyed their victims and the food items stolen on four Boxer motorcycles stolen in the village.


“The bandits were heavily armed with dangerous guns and are about eight of them according to one of the persons that managed to escape. They went away with 18 people including four nursing mothers and their babies, four motorcycles and plenty of foodstuffs.


“So far, no ransom has been placed for their freedom, but we appeal to relevant security agencies to help in their rescue.
“The news of more deployment of police personnel on the Birnin Gwari -Kaduna highway by the Police Commissioner was greeted with joy but up till now, there is no presence of such promised deployment of personnel,” he said.


Haruna therefore appealed to the Police Commissioner to back up his promise with actions, while describing the Kaduna- Birnin Gwari and Birnin Gwari – Funtua roads as a danger zones that required urgent government attention.

When contacted, the Kaduna state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mohammed Jalige  said he was going to make contacts and get back, but was yet to do so as at the time of filing the report.
