Unemployment threatening political stability – APC govs

All Progressives Congress (APC) governors have declared that youth unemployment “is now a major threat to the political stability of Nigeria.”

The governors made the declaration while speaking through the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Governor Rochas Okorocha, in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, when he declared open the first Progressive Governance Lecture Series tagged “Unemployment and the Crisis of Governance in Nigeria, the Way Forward.”

Okorocha said the APC was set to tackle the increasing wave of unemployment  in the country as from 2015 after sending the PDP packing.

He said: “The current unemployment situation in Nigeria is unacceptable and is a danger to the social, economic and political stability of Nigeria.
It also impacts negatively on our ambitions as a country; after all, howcan Nigeria with over 20 million youths who have no jobs and millions of others wasting away claim that we want to be a major power in the comity of nations?”

The progressive governors forum  chairman emphasized that Nigeria’s
quest to be a major power will be a mirage unless it solves the problem of over 20million unemployed youths.
He pointed out that the progressive governors chairman are determined towards making use of their individual and collective experience to bear  “as we seek to make Nigeria work again”.

“We are beginning the journey towards a new Nigeria by engaging with all citizens to address the major issues of governance and then adopting practical solutions that can be easily implemented”.
Governor Okorocha then assured that the progressive governors “will come up with tangible, workable proposals that will make immediateimpact on job creation”.

Speaking,Governor Abiola Ajimobi said the problem of unemployment in Nigeria will become a thing of the past as soon as APC wins 2015 presidential polls.

The guest lecturer, Dr Ayo Teriba urged federal government to make monthly employment data available before the end of each month, fix rail transportation, rethink fiscal policy, refocus monetary policy and ensure that elected officials accept responsibility for policy formulation and coordination.
