UNFPA launches emergency health cases reporting App

The United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA) in collaboration with Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) on Friday launched a Text4life App to report emergency cases of health related matters in Kaduna state.

The Text4life App is based on a USSD code 347161#, a free toll line that once dialled will connect the caller to the person in charge of the care required to enable prompt response to the emergency health case.

The App was developed and launched nationally in May 2021 by UNFPA through PPFN as the lead contracted Civil Society Organisation and has been launched in six other states with Kaduna being the seventh state.

In Kaduna state, the Text4life app is launched in Kaduna North and Chikun local government areas as pilot local governments.

The Program Officer of Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria, Hajiya Amina AbdulRaheem, said the app had been launched in six states of the federation, namely Kano, Sokoto, Gombe, Borno, Ogun and FCT Abuja.

Hajiya Amina AbdulRaheem, who represented the project coordinator, said the app would be launched in the remaining 21 local governments of the state.

She said, “The App is for the people of the two local government areas to use during health emergency cases so that the nearest primary health care centres will respond on time. The cases such as gender-based violence, sexual reproductive health and family planning and maternal health issues among others can be quickly reported to the nearest primary health care centre and other responding agencies.”

The health secretaries of the two benefiting local governments and other stakeholders expressed delight at the launch of the App, assuring that they would do their best to make the programme effective.
