UNHCR urges more support for refugees, IDPs

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has called for collective responsibility in meeting the needs of refugees and Internally Displaced Persons.
It noted that over 68.5 million persons globally have been forced to flee from the safety and comfort of their homes and communities.
This was contained in a statement disclosed yesterday by its High Commissioner, Filippo Grandi in commemoration of the 2018 World Refugee Day and made available to journalists in Damaturu by the Head of Field Unit, Gabriel Idoko.
“As conflicts emerge, recur, persist and deepen, 68.5 million people are uprooted around the world and nine out of ten are in their own countries or countries next door. Taking care of refugees must be a global and shared responsibility; it’s time to do things differently.
“Helping refugees rebuild their lives need all of us, working together so that they can achieve what most of us take for granted which includes education, a place to live, job and being part of a community,” he said.
Grandi noted that, standing together with refugees and IDPs, stands for diversity for all.
