UniAbuja boils over lack of water, electricity

Students of the University of Abuja yesterday took to the streets in protest over unavailability of water and regular electricity supply in the two campuses at Gwagwalada and Airport road.

As early as 5 o a.m. yesterday  a large number of the students, mostly those living in the two campuses, barricaded the entrances to the main gates, thereby obstructing human and vehicular traffics, into and out of the school.

Friday Adaye, a 200-level student, told Blueprint that the school had been without water and electricity for over three months and that the management of the institution had not done anything about it.

Attempts by the vice-chancellor, Prof. Joseph Adelabu, to calm the rampaging students down were firmly resisted.
When our reporter visited the university’s senate building to get the reaction of the school authorities, the entire edifice was deserted and there was no one to talk to.
