UNIBEN spokesman, 272 others bag doctorate degrees

Spokesman of the University of Benin (Uniben) in Edo State, Mr. Michael Osasuyi, and 272 other graudands have been awarded doctorate degrees (PHD) of the institution.

A total of100 graduands also bagged first-class degree honours during the university’s 45th convocation ceremony held on Saturday at the institution’s main auditorium.

Besides, ex-Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Emmanuel Nwanze,  Prof. Esosa Bob Osaze and John Oamen Igene were conferred with the title of emeritus professor.

Speaking, Prof. Nwanze,  who cautioned that democracy cannot thrive without proper education said, “A dysfunctional education system portends grave danger to the society”.

Nwanze called for strict adherence to education tax laws, reformation and restructuring of the nation’s  “educational system to meet global standards”.


Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, said academic activities in the institution attained enviable height during his administration.

According to him, “a significant part of the achievement of my administration was the attraction of Centre of Excellence in Reproductive Health Initiative (CERHI), a World Bank assisted the project.”
