UNICEF holds conference on preprimary education in Gombe

Stakeholders in Gombe state have pledged to put in their funds to ensure that all schools have pre-primary education in the state.
The stakeholders also advocated proper training for their teachers to take care of the children in pre-primary classes.
Those were part of the resolutions reached by the stakeholders at a two-day dialogue and advocacy on Pre-Primary Education in Gombe state.
They promised to go back to their minimum standards of establishing pre-primary schools and ensure that the implementations of the standards were met.
The meeting was organised by UNICEF in collaboration with the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board on the need for increased planning, coordination and investment in Early Child Development.
It called for more sensitisation among parents, communities, as well as religious and traditional circles, on the need for pre-primary education for a solid foundation for their children.
The stakeholders comprising senior government officers, civil society organisations and other partners, who play very critical roles in the running of the state, were worried that many parents were not aware of the importance of taking a child to school at such tender age.
The stakeholders reminded the public on the importance of early childhood education, as research carried out globally showed that the child develops within the ages of zero to five years, a period when the brain is fully developed.
“The research says when the child’s brain is developed well; it will make the child reach his or her highest potential,” they agreed.
They discussed the need for increased planning, coordination and investment in Early Child Development as it affect the state and Nigeria at large.
