UNICEF to enroll 400,000 out-of-school children in Adamawa

The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) in conjunction with Adamawa state government has begun its 2017/2018 school enrollment drive campaign as part of efforts to improve child enrollment into formal education in the state.
The programme, which is targeted at the grassroots, will lead to the enrollment of 400,000 out of school children in 10 local government areas of the state, including Yola South,Yola North, Mubi South, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Gerei, Fufore, Michika and Maiha.
Speaking at the event which took place, weekend, at the Lamido Adamawa’s palace, Yola, UNICEF education consultant, Mr. Josiah Isaiah, explained that the enrollment campaign will take 400,000 out of school children to schools to better their future.
He noted that, the programme was targeted at 10 local government areas of the state, especially remote villages and those affected by insurgency, which would go a long way in impacting positively in the education sector of the state.
He commended Adamawa state government for its continued support towards education and other intervention programmes in the state and appealed to the state government to pay its counterpart fund for 2017 noting.
Also speaking, Speaker of the state Assembly, Hon.Kabiru, commended UNICEF for its interventions in the state, and assured of the continued support of the lawmakers towards its activities in the state.
He noted that, already, the Assembly had approved the state counterpart fund on UNICEF intervention programmes but expressed surprise that the approval was yet to be implemented by the executive.
Mijinyawa added that, most of the lawmakers have already flagged-off the enrollment campaign in their various constituencies and will continue to do so until the desired result is achieved.
