Unilorin don gets accolades for community dev’t

A Senior Lecturer in the Department of the Performing Arts, University of Ilorin, Dr. Sadiyat Olapeju Shuaib, has been commended for her relentless efforts towards the development of Pakata community in the Ilorin West local government area of the state.

At the maiden edition of a Quranic recitation competition organised by a socio-cultural organisation, “Pakata Patriots”, the President, Mallam Shehu Ahmad Aliyu, eulogised Shuaib, who was the chairperson at the event, for her contributions which accounted for the success of the programme.

Aliyu, particularly thanked Shuaib for her donations of two of the main prizes that were competed for at the event. He also recalled the several roles of the don in other aspects that have assisted in raising the quality of lives of some members of the Pakata community.

In her remarks, Shuaib stressed the need for Muslims to embrace the study and regular consultation of the Quran for them to be properly guided in their day-to-day activities.

The Performing Arts scholar encouraged female students to update their knowledge of the Holy Quran for them to compete favourably with their male counterparts and more importantly, to enable them build functional families and a better society as they progress in life.

She explained that “Quranic education needed to be embraced by Muslims not minding their age, sex or class, because of the abiding rewards its knowledge facilitates for those who know it”.

She reminded Muslims that those who learn and imbibe the teachings of the Holy Quran are sure of an enviable life in this world and a rewarding hereafter.

Also speaking on the occasion, an Associate Professor in the Department of Religions, University of Ilorin, Dr. Abubakar Imam Ali-Agan, commended the foresight of the organisers of the competition for staging the intellectually-stimulating and spiritually-empowering programme, which, he said, would go a long way in entrenching the lessons of the recently concluded Ramadan in participants and the generality of Muslims.
