Unilorin VC explains delay in one-student-one-i-pad initiative

Vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali, has said that the institution’s i-pad initiative, which is to provide computer tablet for each student, would be ready within the next two weeks.
“The i-pads are not made in Nigeria, they are costumised with all the necessary details about each student, and the curriculum of the university; that is why is being delayed,” he said.

Ambali, who disclosed this at an interactive session with journalists in Ilorin,
said the consignment which is being expected from abroad would be delivered by the vendor in two weeks.
He said the university had also introduced electronic multi-purpose identity cards for staff and students which serve as their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) key to students’ hostel rooms and access to internet.

Ambali said the university had been experiencing a stable academic calendar “because of the discipline instilled in students and the understanding between the Unilorin branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the management.”
“It is a misconception to perceive the Unilorin ASUU as a toothless bull dog; modern world unionism has gone beyond the era of confrontation but employing dialogue to resolve issues.”
