Unite against terrorism, IGP urges Nigerians

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to rise in unity and firmly stand their ground against terrorism.
Reacting yesterday to the attack on Nyanya Motor Park, he said incidents like that called for a united fight against the common enemies of our land.

This was contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Frank Mba.
Abubakar, he said, charged the citizenry “to shed all political, ethnic, religious or sectional leanings and rally round the national flag at this trying moment of our nationhood, by remaining vigilant and cooperating with the security agencies in their bid to stamp out terrorism.”

He warned against all forms of divisive, inflammatory and provocative statements capable of heating up the polity and distracting investigators, and encouraged them to supply relevant information to the Police and other security agencies that could assist them track down the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
He further appealed to the media to positively deploy their communication tools in order to help in healing the wounds of terrorism and exercise restraint in the use of gory and offensive images capable of causing further trauma to the grieving citizens, adding that the privacy of the victims should be respected.
