Unity panacea to all Nigeria’s problems, group declares

The Patriotic Action Nigeria (PAN), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has proffered unity as the key to all Nigerian problems.

The Convener of the group aimed at initiating a national re-orientation, mindset shift and personal good, gender equity and youth empowerment, Major General John Gbor (retd.) stated this at a press conference, Thursday in Abuja.

Gbor, who is a former Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) said, “The key to all Nigerian problems is unity. Once we unite and pledge our allegiance to Nigeria and accept one another as fellow citizens, there is hardly any problem we cannot solve.

“…For us to govern ourselves successfully, we must play down ethnicity, religiosity, geo-political divides, pledge loyalty to our dear nation and be just Nigerians.

“Having pledged our loyalty to the nation, we will then go back to the drawing board, revisit the British contrivance of Nigeria, untie the wires and remove the knots that hinder our successful take off.”

According to the convener, “The realistic unity of Nigerians is the only option left to us as nation. Unity will bring understanding between and among us. Without understanding we cannot achieve the peace desired for our peaceful co-existence. It takes Nigerians to fix Nigeria.

“We have a choice, either to fix our nation for the benefit of present and future generations or to continue to suffer the mess we inherited from the colonialists and the ones we have created for ourselves.”

The group which appreciated the efforts of government at all levels, noted that the task of uniting the country should not be left to government alone.

“It takes the entire citizenry to mobilize for the task of uniting their country. PAN seeks to partner with government, collect information at the grassroots and communicate with governments on all issues hindering or facilitating national unity.

“Our Present and Past Leaders: From Sir Alhaji Tafawa Balewaa in 1960 to the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, our leaders have done well to keep this country together as one indivisible nation. You must all be commended for this singular achievement,” the group further stated.
