Unizik alumni congratulates Esimone on his emergency as VC

The President, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Alumni Association (NAUAA) and one of the top contenders for the position of Vice-chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Emeka Ezeonu has congratulated Prof Charles Esimone on his appointment as the Vice-chancellor of the University.

Ezeonu, a Professor of Environmental Biochemistry who came third in the screening process that involved twenty-eight other Professors from around the country, personally congratulated his colleague and fellow contestant  Prof Esimone for the top-job.

A release singed by Secretary General of NAUAA, Ejiofo Umegbogu, disclosed that Ezeonu also forwarded a congratulatory letter on behalf of the University Alumni Association, to the incoming Vice-chancellor of the institution, describing his emergency as a radical departure from the past selection processes where according to him, bickering, protests and even litigation characterised the appointment of Vice-chancellors of the university, and indeed, most universities in the country.

“A situation that had led to intense politicking and internecine strife within the university community, leading to disruption of smooth academic activities and politicisation of the Ivory Tower. This gesture is an exceptional act of statesmanship, which should be emulated by every Nigerian, especially, public office seekers,” he disclosed.

Umegbogu said by the congratulatory message, the current Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Imo state, has once again demonstrated that he is a man of integrity, and has lived up to the motor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (his Alma-Mater) which are, Discipline, Self-reliance and Excellence.

“The National Executive Council NEC and entire members of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Alumni Association wishes Prof Esimone well, in his new assignment as he prepares to takeover from the outgoing Vice-chancellor, Prof Joseph Ahaneku, with effect from June 4, 2019,” he said.
