Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, on Sunday, announced promotion of 24 Academicians to the professorial cadre.
According to the University’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs Chika Ene, NAU equally promoted 23 lecturers to rank of Reader.
Ene said the promotion came after a thorough scrutiny of the staff at the 99th meeting of the Appointments and Promotions Committee for Academic staff, which was also approved by the university’s Governing Council at its 119th meeting recently.
“Faculty of Management Sciences tops the chart with five professors followed by Social Sciences with four professors, while Arts, Engineering and Medicine have three professors. Faculties of Health Science Technology and Bio-Sciences have two each while faculties of Basic Medical Sciences have one each. Out of the 24 persons, seven are of the feminine gender.
“The timely promotion is due to our Vice-Chancellor’s drive to transform the university to one of the best 200 varsities in the world. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Charles Esimone, has placed a huge priority on staff welfare. A good number of members of staff both teaching and non-teaching have been promoted,” she added, noting that most of the junior staff who had upgraded their certificate were converted to senior staff.
