Unkwoun gunmen kill another 3 policemen in Ebonyi

Three policemen were Thursday killed by unknown gunmen in Ebonyi state.


The three policemen attached to Safer Highway patrol team were short dead while on duty by unknown gunmen at Nwaezenyi Junction, Izzi local government area, Abakaliki.


The gunmen were said to be in a convoy disgusing to be mourners, but on getting to the police check point at Nwaezenyi where they were flanked down, they immediately opened fire on police killing two  later killed another officer setting police van ablaze on the same road.


When contacted, the police public relations officer, DSP Loveth Odah, confirmed the story and saying “according to our Safer Highway team, some people in disguise were moving in convoy as if they were doing a burial rally with motorcycle, three motorcycle  in the front with three trycircle before the two Siena buses following them.


“On the process of checking at them they opened fire and killed two police closer to them at the  checking point. Though the other ones we called them the men at sentry shot at them and reasonably  we suspected  that some of them were also wounded. 


“There are traces, infact we have gone for under spot assessment the Deputy commissioner of police operation have led other police officers to on the spot assessment to assess the level of damages and to know what actually happened and we are really looking for a clue to get to the perpetrators. So we have no detailed  report yet but as soon  as they are back we will get the full details.


“This one was shot in a close range and those other ones were coming to help there colleagues on whatever that was happening they did not know that the trycircle that passed them was among the attackers, they went up there and killed the police officer in the vehicle  and set the police van ablaze. That made them three police officers we lost yesterday.

“We are mourning seriously, but the police actually linked it up with the breakthrough we recorded last  Thursday, on the April 8, 2021, when in the same pattern policemen were at the  check point at quarry when some people  through the bush opened fire on them, but the police officers  quickly returned the fire, gunned down two, though did not kill them, they have made revelations that is really helping the command.According to them they were seven but two were gun down not dead but their legs were badly wounded with bullet injury”. She said.
