Updated: 11 perish in Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash

Eleven persons have been reportedly burnt to death, while seven others sustained various degree of injuries in a multiple accident involving two Mazda buses and a car, at Isaara bridge, Ogere on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, weekend.

The Ogun state Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Ahmed Umar, while confirming the incident to newsmen stated that the accident which occured at 10:35pm on Saturday was caused by excessive speed and dangerous driving.

Umar noted that the number plates of the vehicles could not be identified due to the extent of the fire, adding that the deceased were burnt beyond recognition.

He added that seven people were rescued with injuries and taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, while one of the other victims was taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan.

“FRSC Ogun state sector command wishes to inform the motoring public on the multiple crash that occurred late last night  involving three vehicles that resulted in fire outbreak before Isaara bridge, Ogere area.

“A total of 11 persons were confirmed dead, seven rescued with  injuries which comprised of five male adult, one female adult and one male child.

“The fire service Sagamu was contacted and the impact of the crash is obstructing the Ibadan – Lagos bound of the expressway.

“Traffic has been diverted to Lagos-Ibadan route and the crashed vehicles are still burning.

“Motorists are advised to drive cautiously obey traffic rules and regulations and also cooperate with traffic managers  managing the situation,” he said.
