Updated: 5 victims of Anambra collapse building die



The Anambra State Police Command, on Thursday, confirmed five out of seven victims dead after Onitsha building collapse.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Muhammed, who reported the death of the five victims at 2.4pm on Thursday,  did not state whether they were pronounced dead in hospital were they were receiving medical attention or not. 


The PPRO early in the morning reported that three casualties whose identities were yet to be ascertained were rescued alive from the collapsed building and rushed to the General hospital Onitsha by the Red Cross for medical attention while two others were certified dead by the medical doctor and their corpses deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.


According to him, the rescue Operation is still ongoing and case is under investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.
“On the 22nd May, 2019 at about 3pm, a building under construction  located at No 9 Ezenwa Street, Onitsha belonging to one Barr Ikebu Aso collapsed. 


“Police patrol teams and other Sister agencies  rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area to checkmate miscreants  and criminal elements from taking advantage of the situation to loot,’ he earlier reported.  


Blueprint recalls that a three Storey building in Onitsha, had trapped seven persons including its contractor on Wednesday.
