Updated: Buhari swears-in Justice Mohammed Tanko as substantive CJN


President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Abuja swore-in Justice Muhammed Tanko as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Muhammad was first swore-in in January as acting CJN following the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen by the president. 

Justice Tanko was confirmed by the Senate on July 17, 2019. 

The swearing/in was witnessed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Deputy President of the Senate Ovie Omo-Agege and Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr Femi Gbajabiamila.
Others at the event were Governor Baka Mohammed of Bauchi state and Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state, top judicial officers, friends, relatives and associates of the new CJN.
Born on December 31, 1953, he hails from Doguwa, Giade local government of Bauchi state.

He obtained his primary education at Giade Primary School from 1961 to 1968 and then proceeded to Government Secondary School, Azare from 1969 to 1973.
He attended Abdullahi Bayero University College, Kano for his IJMB from 1975 to 1976 and later went ahead to read Law at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1976 to 1980. He attended Nigerian Law School from 1980 to 1981.
Justice Muhammad was elevated to the position of Justice of the Court of Appeal in 1993 and became Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2006.
