Updated: Everton thrash dire Man Utd as Solskjaer’s slump continues

Manchester United suffered their fifth away defeat on the bounce as they slumped to a 4-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.

Solskjaer’s side looked extremely poor throughout the afternoon at Goodison as the home side ran out comfortable winners on a day to forget for the Red Devils.

Everton took the lead in the 13th minute of the game after Lucas Digne’s long throw was flicked onto the far post to Richarlison by Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the Brazilian finished in acrobatic fashion for his 13th league goal of the season.

United never got going in the first half and things got worse for the visitors 15 minutes later as Gylfi Sigurdsson picked the ball up 30 yards from goal and ran at Nemanja Matic before unleashing a strike that fizzed past David De Gea, although in truth the Spaniard should have done better with the effort.

Solskjaer made two changes for the second half with Ashley Young and Scott McTominay entering the fray however neither could do anything to stop Everton’s third from Lucas Digne.

The ball fell to the French full-back just outside the area and his stunning strike found the bottom corner to compile the misery on the travelling supporters.

The game was over as a contest from there but Marco Silva’s side refused to take their foot off the gas, as substitute Theo Walcott raced past the lethargic United defence to slot the ball low and past De Gea.

Everton pushed for a fifth bringing on Irish international James McCarthy for his first Premier League appearance of the season while Solskjaer’s side struggled to string any form of an attack together.

Isolated and struggling up top, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford never tested Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal with United only registering one shot on target through Anthony Martial in the 86th minute.

Two heavy defeats in a row and six losses in their last eight games, United welcome Manchester City to Old Trafford on Wednesday which is sure to be another tough test for Solskjaer’s side.
