Unknown gunmen on Wednesday morning attacked and disrupted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election holding at the confluence stadium in Lokoja, leaving scores of people wounded.
The exercise which was supervised by the Adamawa state Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was adjudged the most peaceful and transparent in the history of PDP primary election in the state was disrupted by hoodlums suspected to be gunmen around 1:35am on Wednesday with a sporadic shooting that made party supporters, delegates, officials of the party and the security agents on duty to scamper for their lives.
Over 2,500 delegates drawn from the 21 local government areas were expected to participated in the exercise but 2,388 delegates were accredited to elect the flag-bearer of the party for the November 16 governorship election.
The accredited delegates commenced voting by 7:30pm while sorting of votes cast started by 10:25pm on Tuesday.
Blueprint correspondent reports that the exercise was keenly contested by former governor, Capt Idris Wada, his younger brother, Musa Wada, son of former Governor Ibrahim Idris, Abubakar Idris, and Senator Dino Melaye.
Others who are in the contest are Aminu Abubakar Suleiman, Joe Erico Ameh and Victor Adoji.
However, during the sorting of votes some unknown gunmen heavily armed stormed the stadium and started shooting sporadically.
The shooting started from outside the stadium through the fence and shooting into the main bowl of the stadium
All the delegates, aspirants, journalists and even some security men had to run for their lives as the shooting became tensed which injured several people following the sporadic shooting by the gunmen.
